Nothing is left to chance in the design of the sensory garden. It follows the same principles of design as the sensory gardens that are customized for elderly people. An abundance of well-known perennials such as Geranium, Bergenia and Magnolia have been carefully assembled with well thought out combinations of colours, scents, and memories. Colours and scents are pleasant for everyone, but sensory gardens are often used in care for patients with dementia because they revive fond memories from the summers of their childhood as well as the memories of time spent caring for their own gardens at later points in life.
